Kitchen table: thats where I honed my skills

4-01-08
First of all, you gotta know what song that's from. You gotta! 2nd: this is cool. It's a drum table.

lol I remember havin to stay the table for hours when I was really young because I would never wanna finish all my food, and I had to stay until I did. (always finish your plate). If I would have had this... it wouldn't have been so bad.

The Reppo II - an urban hardshell backpack with built-in speakers. For the newschool Radio Raheem's. "D muhf***a D! Rosie Perez. and yes"

By designer Joonas Saaranen. It's dope BUT it'd be wack if you have a couple people with those all tryna play their music. As a fan of all genres, I don't mind. I'd even turn mine off & let you play yours... especially if it's something I never heard. But everybody isn't me. BUT then again, what are the odds of that happening? Multiple people in one location having these?

Joe Budden - Touch & Go

3-29-08
(Envy voice) New Joe Buddennnn! Joint is called "Touch & Go".

This is a fun one. When I first heard the title, I thought it was on some Mood Muzik tip... like his condition is Touch & Go lol.

Is Joe Budden Back?

He never left, but is he back commercially? He's been puttin out heat since his first album, but with the Def Jam situation, his 2nd album never saw the light of day. He put out some EXTREMELY good mixtapes (Mood Muzik 2, 3 etc.), some classic songs, and he kept a dope freestyle out. Now he was an album on the way and it should be dope, because he has only grown. He is hands down one of the best in the game right now, whether you know it or not. This song is right up there around "Fire" to me. Hope it takes off.

Be on the watch for his new album "Padded Room", coming soon.

Sneakerology 101

3-17-08
Pensylvania's Carnegie Mellon University has introduced its official sneaker based class, Sneakerology 101.

How ill is that? To be in college and be able to take a class on sneakers. That's one class I wouldn't have minded going to. Only thing, with any type of contemporary class, you get a lot of "Know-it-alls"... and of course, Know-it-alls never know it all. But they should have this at every college.

"A university level course dealing with sneaker culture on the whole. Ranging from its roots in the 1970s to its shaping by hip-hop, the internet and basketball among other factors, the course covers the overall impact of sneakers on a worldwide level. The class utilizes Bobbito Garcia's Where'd You Get Those? for reference as well as various sneaker-based websites. Evaluations include a mid-term project pertaining to the design of a sneaker, incorporating elements acquired along the way. Interested parties can sign up for the class' next session set for Spring of 2009. "

Jordan Brand PHLY

I like these joints. J's, but on a casual tip. I like the Gourmet joints that are out too.

"Jordan introduces this season the PHLY, a lifestyle oriented sneaker. With most Jordans having a clear athletic approach and a few being very successful in the lifestyle sector, the brand wants to go deeper into that part of their business. The PHLY takes clear inspirations in terms of colors and patterns from Jordan classics, without putting too much of the performance features into them."

A Couple Questions with Mick Boogie

3-6-08

Who is Mick Boogie? Mick Boogie is THAT DJ.
DJ for The Cleveland Cavs, Face of LRG, has been recognized by Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, ESPN, Vibe, MTV and more, has performed at events for Nike, Versace, Heineken, AT&T, Maxim, Adidas, and he recently played at Jay-Z & Lebron Jame's Two Kings Dinner sponsored by Wrigley's. He's also done quite a few mixtapes including the Dilla tribute, "Dillagence" with Busta Rhymes. And trust me when I tell you, he TORE IT DOWN last night at the N*E*R*D concert at the House Of Blues.

His new mixtape with Lil' Wayne, "Hello Brooklyn" is on the way. And be on the lookout for his collab with Talib Kweli, "MCEO".

He recently took time out of his busy schedule to answer a couple of questions for us, so check it out.

FC: How was it playing at The Two Kings Dinner held by Lebron & Jay?

Mick Boogie: One of the highlights of my life. The best MC and the best basketball player...at one party. I was honored to be a part of it.

FC: Are there any events or concerts that stand out as a favorite?

MB: One of my first ever gigs was opening for De La Soul in the late 90s. It was incredible.

FC: What DJ's were you checking for as kid? Did you always want to be a DJ?

MB: I always had an interest in djing but never took it seriously til 1996. Influences include first and foremost, Jazzy Jeff. Also... Funk Flex, Kid Capri, Pete Rock, DJ Shadow, Stretch Armstrong and more.

FC: You did the Dillagence tape with Busta Rhymes; what did Dilla mean to you?

MB: One of the best who ever did it. Hands down. Working with Busta on that project was something I'll always be grateful for.

FC: How did it feel to be in Entertainment Weekly for that tape?

MB: Wow dude...career highlight. Ive been in The Source and XXL a million times...and I'm appreciative. But when a mag like EW seeks you out and gives you press (we didn't reach out to them at all), it is the best feeling in the world. That mag is among the most read mags in circulation. Mothers and grandmothers read EW. So it was one of the best feelings to see that.

FC: What makes a good DJ?

MB: 1) Talent 2) Creativity 3) Hard work 4) Luck

FC: What your favorite record to spin? What song always makes everybody go crazy?

MB: Tie: Jay-Z "Public Service Announcement" and Bell Biv Devoe "Poison"

FC: Most of the time when I'm in a club or a party, I'm always like, "Can I please get a little Jay or Big or something from the East!? Or even some Luda, T.I, etc?" because all they play is Snap Music. There's nothing wrong with Snap Music but honestly, there's no reason "Crank Dat Soulja Boy" should be repeated 5 times in room full of people 21 & over, especially when there is SO MUCH music out there. You play a wide variety of music, including stuff from the East; me and my friends are from the Midwest and we love it.

FC: Do you find that a lot of people from Midwest feel the same or would they rather you just play Snap Music or whatever's "hot" at the moment?

MB: Depends on where I'm spinning. Ive really been phasing myself out of the clubs and environments where I have to play stuff I don't like all night long. I prefer to play a variety. There are versatile and open minded people here, you just have to look a little harder for them. Cleveland isn't that big of a city... I have an easier time playing that stuff in Chicago and Detroit.

FC: What can an up & coming DJ do to make sure they stand out from all the others?

MB: Like I said before... 1) Talent 2) Creativity 3) Hard work 4) Luck

FC: What did you think about the recent Cavs trade?

MB: Dope. Love it. Let's win a championship!

FC: Are there any artists out there we should be checking for?

MB: I'm working with this group from Ohio called Fly Union. Myspace.com/flyunion. They are dope... please check them out. They are like Lil Wayne meets Tribe Called Quest meets The Clipse meets Little Brother. Interesting huh?
